Advent Calendar Day 15

Hollow Point Quadruple Ale (10%) by The Perfect Crime, Stratford, CT

This beer poured a dark, cloudy amber with a decent head.  The taste was of sweet ripe fruits, sweet bread, and belgian yeast, almost earthy at times.  Slight bitterness to counter the sweetness.  Interestingly, the closer to the bottom of the glass, the more tart it seemed to get and that Belgian yeast got stronger.  Perhaps that is just the effect of the 10% talking.

I like the category and I like this beer.  It's a buy.

  1. The Perfect Crime's Hollow Point is a quadrupel ale, of the trappist style appaently. Brown with a good head, it has a stong citrus bouqut, despite the extra malt required by these brews. Tangy, cistrus on first drink, not what I expected from a brew with 10% a.v.! But subsequent sips reveal more sweet nuttiness. Not thick or creamy but relatively light. A deceptive drink indeed. Should be served chilled perhaps, even for a strong ale. 4 bottlecaps out of 5. My lady says it is more of a 4.5 because it is fruity and sweet for a beer, and not anything like an IPA. The ABC redemption beer for Day 13.
