Advent Calendar Day 5

Newport Storm Hurricane Amber Ale (5.2%) by Coastal Extreme Brewing Co.

http://www.newportstorm.com/

Pours a cloudy copper with a good white head.  I'm not getting much on the nose, and a crisp mildly hopped beer on the palette.  The finish reminds me of Lethbridge Pilsner with a bit of a mild skunky hop bitterness.

Unlike yesterday's selection, I'll be able to finish this one, but it is not even close to competing for the best beer in the box.  For my shopping cart, this one is a Don't Buy.

  1. Newport Storm Hurricane Amber Ale from Rhode Island. Good sound on the pop. Frothy pour, nice head to liquid ratio. Hints of fruit in bouquet yet not strong fruit or citrus on taste, undertones. Red brown more than amber. Balanced hops and malt A hint of leather on the palate. More a fall than a spring brew, not winter - too light, not summer - too heavy. Maybe a baby-bear bear? Easy 3 1/2 bottlecaps out of five, could even be a four. Maybe goes with a chicken caeser salad - light with flavour. Would get lost with something stronger and overpower something mild.
